Science Recruiter Stories

“It feels great that I am able to place people in positions where they can make a huge impact around the world. We work with companies that are involved in cancer research or hepatitis – a wide range of disease research – and being able to place candidates in these positions is incredibly rewarding.

Every recruiter will tell you that recruitment is a rollercoaster. There are always ups and downs, but I think hearing stories about people loving the positions we assist them in finding is what makes it come full circle. I love what I do, and it all comes down to those stories and helping people succeed in a career they are passionate about.”

"I spent a large part of my scientific career working in a forensics lab. Moving from Lab Assistant to Chemist to, ultimately, Director and becoming an expert witness for a number of high-profile court cases – giving evidence on toxicology results. After I retired from that role, I did a little consulting but I was looking for somewhere new to focus my energy. Kelly Scientific seemed like the natural choice, I had worked in a lab, I had been a hiring manager, and I had used Kelly before!

My background means I am in a great place to counsel my candidates on their career journey – especially the younger people who are just coming out of college. I’m able to use my background as a supervisor and a scientist to drill down to the skills they have and where they truly want to go. I’m always honest with them and they appreciate that I understand their world. It’s very important to me that my candidates and customers are taken care of.”

“I was a biology major in college and worked as an optician and microbiology lab technician before coming to Kelly. This means I can take what I know and apply it to the roles I am supporting. I understand the terminology and I get what hiring managers are looking for. My scientific background also makes me feel like I have credibility with my candidates and hiring managers. I'm not just another recruiter trying to place another job.

Let's say somebody is coming out of school with a biotech degree in a field they are passionate about. I understand what it’s like to be in their shoes. I understand what they're looking for and can connect them with the right types of companies. I understand where their personality is going to be the best fit and the roles that are likely to make them happiest in the long term.”

“Lots of incredible women have inspired me, my mother worked in the sciences as a registered dental assistant and I admired her commitment and work ethic. My 4th-grade teacher was also a huge influence. Her passion for the subject planted a scientific seed in me, ultimately leading me to study biochemistry and pursue a career in the lab.

Today, I get to combine my scientific knowledge with a people-focused role. I really enjoy helping people find work that changes their lives. The job you do can be such a huge source of self-esteem. I love that, at Kelly, we often support people who sit outside the traditional candidate profile. I recently helped a mom get back into a contract-to-hire scientific role after a 9-year career break. Helping her to reenter the workforce and find a role within a biotech organization was incredibly rewarding.”
