How it began
Gregory Pittman had recently moved back to Charleston, South Carolina and was looking for a job when someone first recommended Kelly Educational Staffing® (KES®) to him. A substitute teacher position came at the right time and fit his skill set as a choral director.
While Gregory was a KES substitute teacher he accepted many shorter assignments, along with two long-term positions. His first was as Interim Director of Choirs for a local high school. He felt lucky to be a substitute teacher working in an area that he was passionate about, and to help his students prepare for the All-County Chorus program.
Following his position as Interim Director of Choirs Gregory took another long-term assignment, in a science classroom at a school designed for academically at-risk students. Although Gregory was not trained as a science teacher, he had a great experience in the classroom. He said, “Being assigned to that class offered me a unique opportunity to see education from another point of view, and offered a challenging experience.”
At the end of the school year, Gregory was nominated for, and won, the KES 2012 Substitute Teacher of the Year award for South Carolina. His passion for teaching and outstanding support for teachers in their day-to-day operations not only earned him this award, but also led to a full-time teaching opportunity.
Gregory made such a good impression as Interim Director of Choirs that the school hired him in that role full-time. He credits the support he received from Kelly Services, and the high school staff for allowing him an opportunity to return to the classroom and teach something that he is passionate about. He would recommend KES to a friend, saying, “Kelly Services is a service company dedicated to providing quality substitute teachers. Their professionalism and desire for excellence make them a unique offering in the staffing industry.”
